We all try for the effortless, sexy look—but let’s face it—most of us don’t throw a V-neck and skinnys on and look like an Olsen twin. Let’s be real.
It seems like an oxymoron to put effort into looking effortlessly stylish, but most of us need just a little assistance.
1. V-necks and scoop necks and crews necks, oh my! Find a t-shirt you love, whether it’s a $10 Target basic or a splurge on a T by Wang. I’m a stickler with t-shirts because on your worst fashion days all you want to do is throw on a comfy tee and look fabulous. V-neck pack by American Apparel, $48
2. UrbanEars come in a plethora of colors to match your most used color palette. (My favorite thing about these is the built-in microphone on the cord for hands-free calling.) UrbanEars Plattan Headphones, $60
3. Sigg bottles are the best things since sliced bread. Eco-friendly, reusable, easy to wash and more importantly doesn’t stank up your water. SIGG reusable water bottle, $24.99
4. It’s okay to be a little messy. Toss some pomade at your roots and twist through the ends for the just-out-of-bed-but-totally-looking-together look. Bumble and Bumble Styling Wax, $25
5. An adorable print to remind you to stick to the basics. Etsy, prices vary
6. Every day arm candy. A set of gold bangles and a killer watch. That simple. Forever 21 Bangle Set, $6.80: Michael Kors Tortoise Watch, $195
7. LBS (yes, little black skinnys) Do it! They’re slimming. They’re versatile—styled casual, edgy or chic. They’ll be a staple in your closet for years. (Try high-waisted for the go-getters, plus high waisted acts like Spanx—they suck everything in!) Old Navy Diva Skinnys in black, $25
8. Wayfarers. The most basic sunglasses and great on every face. RayBan Wayfarers in black, $145
9. Wedges. Try swapping your go-to flats for a pair of basic wedges. Toss on some Dr. Scholl’s gel inserts for a peace of mind. Target Tawny Wedge Sandal, $24.99
10. Pucker up. Tarte makes a great lipstain that is matte without drying the lips. For a subtle look, dab all over the lips or apply heavy for bold color. Tarte LipSurgence natural matte lip tint in Firey, $24
